I worked at Jared for 6 months. The negative posts are typical of what I witnessed during my employment there and what you should expect as one of their "guests".

Regarding the quality of their repairs, while I was an employee, I had a similar personal experience to ones I have read about. They told me I had worn prongs on my ring that should be re-tipped. I could see that was true by looking at my ring under the GemScope. Instead of re-tipping, they recommended I replace the entire head which I did because I thought after all, the head was 25 years old and they are professionals.

Approximately 4 weeks later a co-worker asked me what happened to my ring. When I looked at it, I saw that the head had fallen off. Fortunately, I was at work and we found the head (which held my diamond valued at several thousand dollars). I had not hit my ring against anything.

Two days later, a 'guest" came into Jared's with the same situation...Jared had recently replaced her head and without hitting her ring against anything she noticed the head was missing, she found it and now wanted it repaired. I didn't tell the "guest" that I had experienced the same exact situation but I DID point out to the Repair Manager and the Store Manager that, OK, here we have these 2 identical situations so...could there be a problem???

The Store Manager told me that I needed to learn that our customers are liars. I reminded her that 1 of the 2 situations was mine and I knew I had not hit my ring the particular morning that the head fell off. (How rough can you be on your ring in a 2-hour period of selling jewelry at Jared?) I commented that how easily the head fell off scared the "guest" and she wondered if she could ever enjoy wearing her ring again for fear of losing her stone. I added, "as ya'll know, I can relate!"

I have a nice-sized collection of fine jewelry. Before now, I have never heard of, or experienced, fine jewelry breaking but at the same time, every piece I own was purchased from private jewelers only. That is also the case with my friends and family. The ring that had the head replaced by Jared sits in my drawer. I'm afraid to wear it.

Important information to know is that Jared is owned by Sterling. Sterling owns most of the "chain" jewelry stores...Kay's, Zales and 16 other brands. Sterling is owned by Signet in the U.K. Sterling sells approximately 40% of the jewelry sold in the U.S.

While I was working at Jared, we also had a number of LeVian rings break.

Also important to note is that the jewelry repair center located within the Jared store is independently owned and so it is not REALLY Jared who is doing these repairs. I would be interested in learning who owns the repair company. The repair technicians start out at $8.45 hour and do not require any experience. All of Sterling's chain stores send their repairs to this repair company contained at Jared stores.

Repairs are a big money maker for Sterling. The reason they offer free cleanings is so the sales people can inspect your jewelry (with an untrained eye) and tell you that you need repairs. I received a lot of complaints from customers who said they had recently paid for repairs and now I am telling them they need repairs again.

I have so much more I could tell you but it is too much to include here.

Reason of review: Bad quality.

Monetary Loss: $6000.

Preferred solution: pay for my ring to be corrected by an experienced jeweler of my choice to it's original state but with a new head. Jared's repair technician used a drill bit that was too large and so the head will not fit in the hole. The whole they drilled is too larg.

Jared Cons: Pressure to be slick talkers, Unethical, Added warranties and insurance without telling customers, Promised 40 hours per week but given 25-30.

Thank you for your honesty, my fiancรฉe has had my ring repaired 4 times in less than a year. Stones are constantly falling out of setting.

Head has been replaced. Picked up ring 2 days ago.

Have not hit or bumped this ring in any way, yet a stone has already fallen out. Will be returning to jeweler when we return home from the holidays.
