On June 4th I stopped in the Burnsville, MN Jared Galleria of Jewelry to have my engagement ring steamed. I specifically asked the associate to steam the ring. She said sure and took me to the back where she first examined my ring under a microscope to make sure it was not already damaged.

She then took my ring into a back room and disappeared. I have had my ring steamed before and know very well that it takes less than 5 minutes to complete this process. After 15 minutes she came out and I asked her where my ring was. She informed me that she had decided to polish it instead and it needed to "sit" after the polishing. I was appalled that she would polish the ring without my permission, even after I explicitly asked her to only steam it.

A few hours after she finally gave me my ring back, I noticed that it wasn't sitting correctly with the wedding band anymore. Upon further inspection, I noticed that one side of my ring was worn down to the point where I could feel the diamonds on the edge, making them vulnerable to falling out or being damaged.

I immediately called the store where the associate & manager told me they did not damage my ring and there is no way a polisher could have made my ring lower on one side. I even went into the store and had the manager look at my ring. She immediately noticed the damage when she put it under the microscope and I asked why the other associate hadn't noticed it and brought it to my attention if it was so obvious. She replied that the associate was merely looking for loose diamonds, nothing else. But, if my ring was worn down on one side, wouldn't that be the exact damage they would bring to my attention so that I didn't blame them for it? They told me my ring was worn down from wear, but I have only been wearing it 3 years - and only 2 with my wedding band - it seems like Platinum is a bit more sturdy than only 3 years of wear.

After several calls to a regional manager (who either didn't call me back or called me back but did not leave a phone number for me to return his calls), I sent a certified letter to the store & the corporate office with the estimate for repairs on the ring. It took two weeks of me calling AFTER the certified letter to get a response. They said they would not pay for my jeweler to repair it, but they would repair it themselves in one of their stores. So basically, they are admitting that they damaged my ring, but they do not want to pay for the repairs and instead want to fix it in their store to save money.

I am adamant about never visiting a Jared again and I am not interested in having them attempt to repair my ring for fear that they may do irreparable damage this time. They have already caused $2900 in damage that they are not taking responsibility for, what if I give it to them to repair and they do worse this time?

They are awful at response time, awful at customer service and they are terrible at taking responsibility for their mistakes! Do not shop at Jared Galleria of Jewelry!!

They lost the picture of my CHARM, after I said they took my Diamonds out n put in little bitty chips n had the close the holes in the back so the chips would not fall out.I'll never go back to Jared's, they CAUSE damage at the check so they can get the ring back to switch your Diamond out to less value.

You need to sue in small claims court. Sounds like you have a winning case to me.
